| Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower to Peak Thursday Morning - Remnants of ... - Gather.com Posted: 05 May 2010 06:54 PM PDT Halley's comet last past by earth in 1986, but remnants from Haley's comet will be visible for the next few days in the Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower. The meteor shower is will peak early Thursday morning. Under ideal conditions, about 40 meteors will be able to be seen per hour on Thursday morning. The meteor shower will be able to be seen a few days after May 6th, but it will be at its brightest on the morning of May 6th. Halley's comet takes 76 years to circle the sun, and last past by the earth 24 years ago. The remnants of Halley's comet can usually be seen twice a year. The Eta Aquarid meteor shower can be seen in early May, while the Orionids can be seen in October. The downside about tomorrow mornings viewing is that the moon will be in its last quarter, making the night sky bright, and could make it hard to see the meteor shower.
